Nscale’s IPO will test Wall Street’s appetite for concentrated AI bets once again
techcrunch ·
British neocloud provider Nscale is preparing for an IPO on the NYSE, aiming to raise $3 billion with a projected valuation of $35 billion. The company’s financial health is heavily dependent on customer concentration, as approximately 85% of its $103 billion in contracts comes from agreements with Microsoft and Anthropic. Specifically, Nscale has secured a $43.8 billion deal with Microsoft through 2033 and a comparable agreement with Anthropic that includes stringent milestones allowing the AI lab to cancel if targets are missed. This reliance highlights a broader trend in the AI infrastructure sector, where competitors like CoreWeave and Applied Digital also derive significant revenue from single major clients. While recent revenue surged to $140.6 million in the first half of the year, net losses widened substantially to $1.02 billion during the same period. Nvidia recently provided $1 billion in convertible debt to support Nscale’s operations, joining other investors who backed the company at a previous $14.6 billion valuation. With data centers located in Norway, Portugal, Texas, and West Virginia, Nscale joins a competitive field including Nebius, Lambda, and Crusoe. The upcoming listing will serve as a critical test of Wall Street’s willingness to invest in highly concentrated AI bets amid industry interconnectedness.
