Nvidia in talks to invest in Perplexity at $30 billion-plus valuation

Nvidia is reportedly negotiating an investment in Perplexity at a valuation exceeding $30 billion, more than 50% above the company’s valuation in its previous funding round. Perplexity’s annualized revenue has risen from $250 million to more than $750 million, with growth partly attributed to its Perplexity Computer AI agent for automating tasks. Nvidia had previously considered acquiring Perplexity’s technology and staff through an acqui-hire. In March, Perplexity joined Nvidia’s Nemotron Coalition, which supports open AI models as a counterweight to Chinese AI development. Perplexity has raised more than $1.7 billion, and CEO Aravind Srinivas is considering an initial public offering around 2028. The potential investment would add to Nvidia’s recent deals with AI companies including Poolside, Groq, and Enfabrica, whose purchases of Nvidia chips can return investment money to the chipmaker as revenue.
