Nvidia is paying $6 billion to license Poolside's "Model Factory," the system used to build its AI model, and is offering jobs to 109 employees who worked on the Laguna model. The deal also includes a $1 billion investment from Nvidia at a $12 billion pre-money valuation, while Poolside's three founders will remain with the startup. According to an investor letter reported by Newcomer, the arrangement is described as neither an acquisition nor an acquihire, though it follows similar talent-and-technology deals Nvidia made with Groq and Enfabrica. Nvidia, which builds its own open AI models under the Nemotron line, may compete with some of its own customers through this move. Poolside plans to distribute the $6 billion to its investors by the end of next year.
