NVIDIA to Acquire Hugging Face

NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion. Hugging Face hosts a large open AI community with over 18 million developers, 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications, and more than 200,000 companies use its platform. The acquisition will keep Hugging Face an open platform, letting developers choose any models, frameworks, clouds, and compute, with NVIDIA compute not required. NVIDIA says it will continue supporting open-source and open-weight models from the entire ecosystem and multi-cloud, multi-accelerator development. NVIDIA is already the largest contributor to Hugging Face, having released over 500 models and 250 open datasets on the platform. The deal aims to scale Hugging Face using NVIDIA's infrastructure, engineering, and global reach to improve reliability, safety, model evaluation, and deployment while preserving its open ecosystem. Jensen Huang noted that Hugging Face's founders approached NVIDIA about this next chapter, and the team will retain its iconic brand.
