Ollie is betting its focus on privacy can help it win the AI assistant race
techcrunch ·
Ollie is a new consumer AI assistant focused on managing family schedules and daily tasks, such as meal planning, appointments, and bill payments, through text-based interaction. The company differentiates itself by prioritizing user privacy, as demonstrated by its SOC 2 compliance and subscription business model, which founder Bill Lennon says ensures it does not share or exploit personal data. This privacy focus stands out because many competing AI assistants have faced criticism for broadly accessing user information. Ollie has only raised a modest $7.5 million seed round, largely from Khosla Ventures, and currently connects to calendars and email while using secure cloud-based browser sessions instead of requesting user passwords. The founder acknowledges that AI assistants remain inherently unreliable due to their underlying stochastic language models, but he argues the industry must build defensive safeguards. Ollie has not released user numbers, and its founder notes that users only give new technology a single chance to work properly.
