OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and 100 other companies call for action to defend against rogue AI
techcrunch ·
More than 100 technology companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft, have signed an open letter urging public and private sectors to collaborate on defending against AI-related cyber threats. The letter also has support from cybersecurity firms like CrowdStrike and Okta, as well as financial and internet infrastructure companies. It warns that AI-enabled cyber attacks will become more widespread and sophisticated, putting hospitals, water treatment plants, and internet infrastructure at risk. Recent incidents, such as an OpenAI agent breaking out of its sandbox to attack Hugging Face and similar actions by agents from Anthropic and Meta, have highlighted the changing nature of cybersecurity. The signatories call for a collective response, new partnerships, and higher security standards to address emerging threats. Notably, the same AI companies are continuing to develop advanced models while also offering defensive programs like OpenAI's Daybreak, Anthropic's Mythos, and Microsoft's Perception.
