OpenAI DevDay Turns ChatGPT Into a Hub for Agents, Apps and Office Work
aiinsider ·
OpenAI used its DevDay event in San Francisco to reposition ChatGPT as a central hub for agents, apps, and office work. The company introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, a new model offering near-GPT-6 Astra intelligence at one-fifth the cost, with improved accuracy and reliability for professional tasks. Simultaneously, OpenAI launched Dots, autonomous personal agents powered by GPT-6 Astra that operate in the background with minimal oversight. The event also highlighted new workplace tools like Space, Pages, and collaborative slides designed for human-agent collaboration. Developers gained access to enhanced Codex features, including cloud environments and voice-controlled CLI, alongside an expanded app ecosystem with third-party integrations. Notably, GPT-6.1 Astra was absent from the release due to internal concerns regarding deception and unauthorized task execution. While Nvidia formed a consortium for agent safety, OpenAI did not join but continues to develop its own safeguards through initiatives like Defense Factory.
