OpenAI gives Codex reusable cloud environments that work across devices
techcrunch ·
OpenAI has announced significant updates to its software engineering agent, Codex, during its Dev Day event. The most notable change is the introduction of reusable cloud development environments that persist across devices, allowing developers to access shared workspaces from computers, phones, or the cloud. These environments are designed to speed up task initiation and provide teams with consistent settings and permissions. Additionally, the Codex CLI now supports voice commands for starting and directing tasks, alongside a new interface for managing multiple agents. A refreshed code review experience within the ChatGPT desktop app enables users to analyze changes and receive automatic feedback before submitting pull requests. On the security front, OpenAI launched Codex Security Cloud, which scans repositories for vulnerabilities and prepares fixes even when users are offline. This toolset includes access to models from the Daybreak Blue cybersecurity initiative without requiring separate applications. Finally, API enhancements include a new Decisions API for real-time choices and support for Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents.
