OpenAI is finally merging ChatGPT’s chat and Work tabs
techcrunch ·
OpenAI is consolidating the Chat and Work tabs within its ChatGPT desktop application to streamline the user experience. This move aims to resolve confusion caused by the previous separation of these features, allowing users to seamlessly transition from idea exploration to execution in a single interface. According to an email sent to users, the new unified environment will support file imports, plugins, and web-based tasks while maintaining Codex as a distinct section. Initially, this merged functionality will be available to a select group of users for feedback before a broader rollout. Additionally, OpenAI announced that both ChatGPT and Codex will now draw from a shared token allowance pool, which may affect reset frequencies for some users based on their usage patterns. This strategic update follows a similar integration performed by rival Anthropic, which merged Claude’s chat and Cowork functions earlier in the year.
