OpenAI is gaining on Anthropic with business users, new data indicates
techcrunch ·
New data from corporate card company Ramp shows OpenAI is gaining ground on Anthropic among U.S. business customers, though Anthropic still leads. Anthropic first overtook OpenAI in May with 41% market share to OpenAI's 39%, and by July Anthropic held nearly 44% versus OpenAI's nearly 40%. The data covers more than 70,000 American businesses using Ramp's payment products and skews toward the tech industry. Ramp economist Ara Kharazian noted that OpenAI is currently growing faster in Q3 to date, partly because Anthropic's higher-end Fable model disappointed in adoption due to price and regulatory data-retention requirements. Ramp declined to share actual dollar amounts, and the data excludes large enterprises using other spend-management tools. The figures also show overall adoption of paid AI among Ramp customers is steadily rising, topping 56% by July. The volatility in market share suggests enterprise AI spending may not be very 'sticky' as businesses switch between providers.
