OpenAI launches Dots, its bubbly agentic avatar
techcrunch ·
OpenAI has officially launched Dots, a new personal agentic assistant powered by the GPT-6 Astra model, during its recent Dev Day event. Unlike previous tools such as Codex or ChatGPT, Dots are designed to operate independently in the background with minimal oversight to pursue user-defined goals continuously. These agents are available starting Tuesday for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets and can be accessed through ChatGPT or Codex. OpenAI envisions various use cases, including software developers using Dots to monitor feedback and implement fixes, or scientists employing them to analyze experimental data. Users can interact with these assistants via Slack, Teams, and other organizational platforms, with text message support planned for the near future. The company is also developing specialist Dots that possess specific identities and credentials, currently integrating security controls with Microsoft’s Agent 365 system. To make AI more relatable, OpenAI has adopted a bubbly, cartoonish visual branding for the agents, similar to Meta’s Muse agent.
