OpenAI launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna, boasting lower cost and fewer mistakes
techcrunch ·
OpenAI has expanded its GPT-6 lineup by launching updated versions of its Sol and Luna models, following the recent release of the powerful GPT-6 Astra. These new iterations aim to make advanced intelligence more efficient and accessible across different user tiers. Sol is optimized for complex tasks such as coding, while Luna is designed for high-volume clerical work like summarizing documents. A key feature of this update is a significant reduction in API costs, which are now half the price of the previous 5.6 series due to improvements in caching and inference. OpenAI claims that GPT-6 Sol achieves reliability comparable to Astra while making approximately half as many factual errors as its predecessor. The company also asserts that these models outperform competitors from Anthropic, particularly in response to the timely release of Opus 5.5. Availability begins with ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API for paid accounts, with gradual rollout to free users expected throughout the day.
