OpenAI offers discounts up to 90 percent to poach Anthropic's biggest customers

OpenAI is aggressively targeting Anthropic's major clients by offering discounts of up to 90 percent, a strategy that has successfully shifted significant AI spending toward OpenAI. Notable customers such as Rippling, Replit, and DataCamp have substantially increased their usage of OpenAI services while reducing reliance on Anthropic. For instance, Rippling raised its OpenAI coding workload share from 16 to 52 percent, whereas Anthropic's share dropped from 57 to 18 percent. Replit switched providers after receiving over 30 percent off a contract valued at more than $100 million annually, and DataCamp reported cost reductions between 80 and 90 percent. Additionally, a large US bank doubled its ChatGPT seats for employees at no extra charge, lowering the per-user cost significantly. While this approach sacrifices some margins, OpenAI has also achieved genuine price cuts through improved efficiency in its Sol and Luna model lines. Meanwhile, Anthropic's growth has slowed, and both companies face increasing competitive pressure from Chinese models like Deepseek and Kimi.
