OpenAI reportedly in talks to raise $30B round at $1.4T valuation
techcrunch ·
OpenAI is currently in discussions with investors to secure a pre-IPO funding round of at least $30 billion, valuing the company at approximately $1.4 trillion. This latest financial push follows a previous raise of $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation, which was initially intended to be the final private round before a public listing. The company's run-rate revenue has surged by 70% since July, reaching $40 billion in August, driven by a strategic refocus on areas such as coding. Despite earlier expectations for a public market debut in 2026, CEO Sam Altman has ruled out an IPO this year to prioritize AI safety concerns. Altman recently emphasized that proceeding with an IPO would carry an unacceptable risk regarding existential threats posed by artificial intelligence. Consequently, this new fundraising effort is viewed as a bridge round leading toward a future initial public offering. Investors remain eager to support OpenAI ahead of its anticipated eventual entry into the public markets.
