OpenAI repotedly in talks to raise $30B round at $1.4T valuation
techcrunch ·
OpenAI is reportedly in discussions with investors to secure a pre-IPO funding round of at least $30 billion, valuing the company at approximately $1.4 trillion. This move follows a previous $122 billion raise in March and comes as the company prepares for its anticipated public market debut next year. The valuation reflects a significant surge in OpenAI's financial performance, with run-rate revenue jumping 70% since July to reach $40 billion in August. CEO Sam Altman has explicitly ruled out an IPO in 2026, prioritizing AI safety over immediate public listing due to concerns about existential risks. He stated that accepting even a small probability of catastrophic outcomes from AI development is unacceptable. If successful, this new fundraising will serve as a bridge round leading up to the eventual initial public offering. OpenAI declined to comment on the reports when contacted by TechCrunch.
