OpenAI's new Rosalind Academic Plan gives research labs up to 30 free seats for a year
decoder ·
OpenAI has introduced the Rosalind Academic Plan, a free initiative currently available exclusively to research laboratories at United States universities. Eligible labs are granted up to thirty complimentary seats on the Business Standard plan for a duration of twelve months, though API access is not included in this offer. The program centers on GPT-Rosalind, an artificial intelligence model specifically designed for life sciences that supports complex biological reasoning. Through the Rosalind Workbench, users can access specialized tools for fields such as medicinal chemistry, genomics, and laboratory experiments. OpenAI implements a vetting process to review the institution, lead researcher, and intended use before granting approval. Once approved, the company monitors usage and applies safety checks for sensitive scientific questions within the approved research context. Additionally, OpenAI states that it does not train its models on research data by default.
