OpenAI's partner content arrives in ChatGPT pre-summarized while the rest of the web gets raw scraps

An analysis by GEO researcher David Konitzny reveals that OpenAI utilizes a dedicated pipeline to prioritize content from licensing partners in ChatGPT. This system delivers pre-generated summaries for partner sources, whereas standard web results are provided only as raw text snippets. The identified partners include major publishers such as Condé Nast, Reuters, and AP, alongside lifestyle sites like Allrecipes. In ranked search lists, these pre-summarized entries dominate the top three positions significantly more often than lower-ranked results. Although OpenAI promised prominent placement for partners since 2024, citations remain inconsistent even for these privileged sources. This structure effectively gives licensed content an unfair advantage over general web data within the chatbot interface. The findings highlight a structural bias in how information is aggregated and presented to users.
