Opentrons Announces $40M Series E Round to Standardize AI-Driven Science on Its Robots
aiinsider ·
Opentrons has secured $40 million in Series E funding to advance its laboratory robotics and AI-driven scientific infrastructure. The investment, led by Avego with participation from BroadOak Capital Partners, aims to expand the company's software, automation capabilities, and data systems. This capital will support Opentrons' goal of standardizing 'autonomous science,' where AI and robots collaborate to design, execute, and refine experiments with minimal human intervention. The New York-based firm currently deploys over 11,000 robots across more than 80 countries, serving major biopharma companies and top U.S. research universities. Existing investors such as SoftBank Vision Fund and Khosla Ventures also participated in this round. The funds will specifically target improvements in experimental software, robotic instrument range, and data infrastructure integration. By bridging the gap between AI hypothesis generation and physical lab work, Opentrons seeks to return valuable time to scientists for discovery rather than manual tasks.
