Oracle Issues Force Majeure Notice on Stargate’s Project Jupiter AI Data Center in New Mexico
aiinsider ·
Oracle has issued a force majeure notice to the developer of Project Jupiter, a major AI data center campus in New Mexico developed by Stargate. This move allows Oracle to delay payments if the facility fails to meet its target operational date in 2028. Despite the notice, Oracle maintains that the project remains on schedule and reaffirms its commitment to the state. The development faces significant hurdles related to energy supply, particularly delays in an Energy Transfer pipeline and pending air-quality permits for Bloom Energy fuel cells. Stargate, an initiative involving Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank, has also encountered opposition from local residents and environmental groups. Blue Owl Capital, which received the notice, stated that the financial commitments to the multi-year project remain unchanged. These events highlight the complex regulatory and infrastructure challenges facing large-scale AI infrastructure projects.
