Origin Raises $20M to Scale Autonomous Construction Robots
aiinsider ·
Origin has emerged from stealth mode with a $20 million funding round co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures to scale its autonomous construction robots. The company plans to deploy its OG-1 robot, which autonomously handles drywall finishing tasks such as applying compound, sanding, and priming. This investment will support fleet expansion and customer pilots in the U.S. and Europe, including Germany, Sweden, France, and Saudi Arabia. Origin aims to extend the robot's capabilities into additional interior trades like taping, drilling, and conduit installation. The startup targets having 150 robots deployed by the end of 2027 to address persistent labor shortages in the construction industry. OG-1 operates on the Construction Action Model, combining task planning, autonomous action, and feedback-driven control. Currently, the robots work at three times human speed while maintaining human-level quality across various commercial and residential sites.
