Physical Intelligence Opens Pi API Beta for Robot Model Training and Deployment
aiinsider ·
Physical Intelligence has launched a beta version of its Pi API, providing robotics developers with hosted access to its latest foundation models for fine-tuning and inference. This service allows teams to upload robot data and train models on company-managed compute without needing to build complex machine-learning infrastructure themselves. The initiative aims to reduce engineering efforts by adapting general-purpose physical knowledge to specific machines and tasks. Early adopters include companies working in autonomous heavy equipment, food preparation, manufacturing, and dual-arm robotics. A notable example is Almond, which used the API to train its Axol robot for deburring spacers in just four days of iteration. Physical Intelligence utilizes this feedback loop to identify limitations, such as network connectivity issues, and guide future model updates. The beta program is currently accepting applications from developers interested in testing these capabilities across various robotic applications.
