Physical Superintelligence Raises $58M to Develop AI Physics Platform
aiinsider ·
Physical Superintelligence (PSI), founded by Matt Pines, Alex Klokus, and Dr. Alexander Wissner-Gross, has launched with $58 million in seed funding led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, with participation from Dragon Global, Robot Ventures, Solari, Susa, SV Angel, Valkyrie, and other investors. The company is developing Emmy, a system of AI-based "virtual physicists" built on a reasoning engine and a curated collection of simulations. Emmy is initially aimed at optimizing terrestrial and orbital data centers by modeling interactions among power, cooling, networking, and computing systems. PSI's first planned commercial application is the design and operation of such data centers, using physics-based reasoning and simulation for infrastructure design and optimization of existing facilities. CEO Matt Pines stated that PSI aims to industrialize the discovery of new physics, giving customers a measurable edge in data center efficiency today and tackling long-unaddressed physics problems in the future. The seed funding will support recruitment of physicists and AI researchers, development of Emmy's models, simulation infrastructure, and verification systems, as well as research into energy, sensing, and computing applications. PSI's team includes physicists, AI researchers, experimentalists, and engineers, and the company is actively hiring.
