Planted Raises $31.8M in Funding to Expand Robotic Solar Deployment
aiinsider ·
Planted, a California-based company specializing in autonomous solar construction, has secured $31.8 million in funding to expand its robotic fleet and launch its next-generation system, Sage. This new system is expected to enter the field in late 2026 and deliver more than twice the productivity of Planted's current robots. The investment round was co-led by Piva Capital and RA Capital Management Planetary Health, with participation from major investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Google, and Khosla Ventures. Planted’s technology combines planning software with terrain-following arrays, allowing installation on slopes up to 27% without grading while producing double the energy per acre compared to conventional systems. CEO Eric Brown emphasized that turning power plant construction into a manufacturing problem is essential to closing the global deployment gap needed by 2050. The company currently serves large energy buyers and plans to offer powered land sites starting in 2027. With a project pipeline exceeding 20 gigawatts, Planted aims to deploy 100 megawatts in 2026 after completing over 10 megawatts in 2025.
