Pretend you’re sitting at Elizabeth Holmes’ desk on this weirdly detailed website
techcrunch ·
Bo Lau, an engineer at Extend, has created a highly detailed website that simulates sitting at Elizabeth Holmes' desk during the Theranos era. The interactive environment is based on over a thousand emails, slides, texts, and documents released as evidence in the United States v. Elizabeth Holmes trial. Users can explore public court exhibits by interacting with a simulated iPhone and MacBook Air running operating systems from 2016. The site also features a functional simulation of the ill-fated Theranos Edison blood-testing machine. While the project serves as an entertaining way to navigate thousands of PDFs from one of tech's most infamous legal cases, it has additional promotional goals. Lau is using the simulator to advertise a watch party for Nathan Fielder’s upcoming documentary about Holmes titled "You Can See Everything." Additionally, the project highlights Lau's company, Extend, which specializes in parsing and extracting data from complex documents.
