Qualcomm Launches Comprehensive Robotics Investment Initiative in Japan, Anchored by New Qualcomm Japan Robotics Center
aiinsider ·
Qualcomm Technologies announced a long-term investment initiative in Japan focused on robotics, physical AI, and industrial automation, anchored by a planned Qualcomm Japan Robotics Center. The center is intended to serve as a hub for collaborative research and development, connecting companies, startups, and universities. Qualcomm did not disclose the investment amount or a timeline for the center's opening. The initiative has support from major Japanese companies including Fanuc, Fujitsu, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, KDDI, NEC, NTT Docomo, Panasonic Industry, Preferred Networks, Sony, and Toyota Motor, as well as the University of Tokyo's Fukui Lab. It is structured around four areas: the robotics center, ecosystem scaling, a global go-to-market accelerator, and a lighthouse initiative for selected deployments. Qualcomm says the effort aligns with Japan's priorities on labor shortages, industrial competitiveness, and AI adoption, and aims to support robotics from early-stage work through commercial deployment and global expansion. Qualcomm executives emphasized deepening collaboration with Japan's industrial community and sharing results globally.
