Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Chips Built for On-Device AI Agents
aiinsider ·
Qualcomm has announced two new flagship smartphone processors, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, at its annual Snapdragon Summit. These chips are specifically designed to support personalized, on-device AI agents with enhanced hardware capabilities. The processors feature new sensing hubs that can run small models of up to 200 million parameters for tasks like speaker distinction and memory building. The Extreme version is capable of running a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model locally, surpassing Apple's recent 20-billion-parameter offering. Both chips utilize AI to improve audio quality during calls by isolating user voices and reducing background noise. Camera upgrades include pixel-level control and improved stabilization, with the Extreme variant supporting 8K video recording. Motorola has already announced its Signature 27 smartphone powered by the Extreme chip, which is expected to launch this year. Industry leaders continue to view smartphones as the primary platform for AI integration despite the growing number of AI devices.
