Ramp launches its own AI model router, called Router
techcrunch ·
Ramp, a corporate expense management platform, has launched an AI model routing service called Router that enables users and companies to switch between various large language models via an API. The company revealed it has been using the router internally for the past three years. Currently, the service is available only in the United States and is free to use for the remainder of 2026, with a $26 credit launch offer, though pricing for next year was not disclosed. Router functions similarly to OpenRouter but offers fewer model options, providing access to models from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, and xAI. It includes routing strategies, such as preference for flex usage tiers or selection based on up to three user-specified benchmarks, along with a dashboard showing token spend, cost, latency, and fallback attempts. The service has an opt-out data retention policy that records model inputs, outputs, and tool calls for one year by default, while removing personally identifiable information before using content to improve the product. For Ramp, entering the model routing business offers a way to tap the AI inference market and provides its existing clients with a service that integrates with its current products, potentially helping the company build relationships with AI labs and gain new customers.
