Renesas Opens Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing
aiinsider ·
Renesas Electronics has opened a Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing to help customers test, validate, and jointly develop robotics systems from proof of concept through deployment. The facility combines hardware, software, AI models, motion control, power systems, sensing, and system-level testing. Renesas says its products currently cover about 30% of a humanoid robot's bill of materials, with the potential to expand that to 70% through strengths in control, power, sensing, AI, software, and ecosystem solutions. The lab opening follows the creation of Renesas' dedicated Physical AI Division on July 1. The company is focusing on robotics systems that require real-time coordination of computing, sensing, actuation, and power management, with humanoid robots as a key area of interest. Renesas also plans to link the lab's hardware work with Renesas 365, its cloud-based electronics development platform. Company executives emphasized China's leadership in robotics innovation and the lab's role in accelerating engineering implementation of physical AI systems.
