Runway's Solaris is an AI system that generates software interfaces in real time

Runway has unveiled Solaris, an "Interface World Model" that generates software interfaces in real time rather than running pre-built code. The system renders interfaces in 720p and responds to user clicks, drags, and voice commands. Potential use cases include interactive online shopping, furniture visualization, and visual tutorials. Solaris builds on Runway's Gen-4.5 video model; a language model determines interface changes while the world model renders each frame. Runway argues this could eventually make the traditional concept of fixed apps obsolete, as interfaces can adapt to each user. However, the system still has limitations, including error-prone text rendering, lack of support for screen readers, and unanswered questions about long-session reliability. Because of these issues, Solaris is currently a research effort, and Runway is seeking partners for a potential launch.
