SafeWorld has emerged from stealth mode with $12.2 million in seed funding to develop simulation software for testing autonomous robot safety. The round was co-led by Shine Capital and a16z Speedrun, with participation from investors such as Box Group and the Carnegie Mellon University Endowment. Founded by Ding Zhao, Kyle Wong, and Simo Rachidi, the Palo Alto-based startup aims to address the limitations of physical safety testing as robots become more autonomous. Their platform allows companies to create test scenarios using data from incidents, standards, and robot logs within a web browser. The system then runs thousands of simulated variations involving realistic human movement to evaluate how robots respond to dangerous or unexpected situations. SafeWorld is already conducting early pilots with automotive manufacturers, warehouse-automation firms, and medical-device makers. Anyware Robotics is also utilizing the company's tools to test challenging operating scenarios. Co-founder Ding Zhao emphasizes that simulation provides a necessary way to test edge cases before real-world deployment, ensuring safety rigor matches AI advancements.
