aiinsider ·
Scopia Surgical, a Montreal-based company, raised CAN$2.65 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round to advance its AI-powered surgical navigation system toward initial clinical evaluation. The round was co-led by Linearis Ventures and Anges Québec, with participation from Fonds Impulsion, HaloHealth, Richard Rubin, Suresh Madan, and other investors. The company plans to use the funds to expand its engineering and clinical teams, accelerate product development, and begin clinical validation across hospitals in Canada and the U.S. Scopia is developing real-time AI-powered navigation for minimally invasive and robotic surgery, aiming to bring preoperative imaging into the operating room in real time using equipment hospitals already own. Co-founder and CEO Gabriel Rivest said the goal is to reduce complications and optimize surgical outcomes. Linearis Ventures cited Scopia's approach to applying physical AI in surgical care as a reason for backing the company, while Anges Québec noted the system's compatibility with existing operating-room equipment.
