ScrollEd wants to turn textbooks into TikTok
techcrunch ·
ScrollEd is a Palo Alto startup developing an app that turns textbooks and other text files into a short-form, vertical feed inspired by TikTok and Instagram Reels. The platform presents material as AI-generated video, audio, text, and interactive quizzes. Users can swipe up to move to a new topic or swipe sideways to explore a subject in greater depth, with a quiz at the end. Co-founders Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff started the company after becoming dissatisfied with doomscrolling, and they aim to make deeper learning easier without maximizing engagement. ScrollEd is targeting educational institutions, corporate training programs, and individual users through a freemium model with paid subscriptions and institutional licenses. The startup plans to expand its lesson library, improve source checking, run institutional pilots, and eventually help educators assess and adapt to individual learners.
