Securing the Infrastructure of Intelligence

NVIDIA has partnered with SB Energy to secure land, power, and shell infrastructure at the PORTS-Pike campus in Ohio, establishing a dedicated facility for OpenAI's AI operations. Acknowledging that many frontier AI laboratories struggle to finance decades-long infrastructure contracts independently, NVIDIA is utilizing its financial strength to guarantee roughly four gigawatts of utility capacity over two decades. The project's first stage will provide 4.25 gigawatts of computing power, capable of supporting millions of GPUs and enabling repeated hardware upgrades throughout the site's lifespan. OpenAI has committed to deploying approximately twelve gigawatts of NVIDIA infrastructure through 2030, with potential growth contingent on additional capacity commitments. Company leadership clarified that the structure avoids circular financing since OpenAI handles lease obligations, while NVIDIA reduces exposure by relying on the modular nature of its GPU ecosystem to reassign hardware to alternative clients if needed. This targeted approach demonstrates NVIDIA's evolution into a comprehensive infrastructure provider that strategically underwrites only high-potential sites with proven, long-term demand. Ultimately, the initiative aims to eliminate critical resource bottlenecks and sustain rapid advancements across the worldwide artificial intelligence sector.
