Sequoia doubles down on Cymphony as AI agents create new enterprise security risks
techcrunch ·
Sequoia Capital has made a new investment in Cymphony, a cybersecurity startup that helps companies manage risks from AI agents accessing sensitive data and systems. The $30 million funding round includes a $25 million Series A led by Sequoia and SMBC, valuing Cymphony at over $100 million. Cymphony's platform provides a unified view of employees and AI agents, using a 'workforce graph' to map access to systems and data. The company says it has already found serious exposure at large companies, such as 85,000 files accessible to AI tools at a US public company. Beyond identifying risks, Cymphony automates remediation and investigation of incidents. Sequoia's initial seed investment was based on the founders' pedigree, but the Series A came after Cymphony gained enterprise customers and revenue. The startup faces competition from established security firms, but Sequoia believes its combined approach to identity and data security is distinct. Cymphony will now need to prove that AI agent security can be a market of its own.
