Singapore Opens Center to Train Humanoid Robots for Police & Public Safety Roles
aiinsider ·
Singapore’s Home Team Science and Technology Agency has inaugurated the Home Team Humanoid Robotics Centre, a 29,000-square-foot facility dedicated to developing embodied AI systems for public safety. The center aims to deploy its first humanoid robot by 2028, focusing on tasks such as hazardous material handling, post-blast investigations, prison searches, and ambulance supply restocking. Minister Edwin Tong emphasized that these robots are intended to augment human officers by taking on dangerous or routine duties, allowing personnel to focus on judgment and empathy. To support this initiative, HTX is collaborating with ST Engineering on integration and cybersecurity, while partnering with Singtel RE:AI to upgrade sovereign AI infrastructure using Nvidia Grace Blackwell GB300 GPUs. The agency highlighted that specialized training data from realistic mock-ups is essential, as industrial robots cannot simply be repurposed for emergency scenes without specific validation. This new center serves as a collaboration platform for government agencies, universities, and research institutes to advance physical AI capabilities.
