SpaceX Reportedly Sought To Acquire AI Coding Startup Cognition, CEO Denies Talks
aiinsider ·
Bloomberg reported that SpaceX attempted to acquire AI coding startup Cognition, but Cognition CEO Scott Wu denied the claim, stating the company is not for sale and no talks occurred. The reported attempt followed SpaceX's $60 billion acquisition of Cursor and came after SpaceX absorbed xAI and went public in a June IPO that boosted its valuation to nearly $2.3 trillion. Elon Musk reportedly told employees that AI could represent 99 percent of SpaceX's value within four to five years, increasing pressure to expand AI revenue. AI-assisted coding is seen as a proven monetization path, highlighted by Anthropic's success with Claude Code, and Cursor and SpaceX have already released a joint coding model called Grok 4.6. Bloomberg noted that acquisition talks with Cognition are no longer active, though the companies might explore Cognition using SpaceX's computing capacity. Cognition, whose customers include Mercedes-Benz and Goldman Sachs, raised $1 billion in May at a $25 billion valuation and is reportedly in early funding talks at a $40 billion valuation.
