SpaceX Returns to Profit as AI Business Drives Over Half of Third-Quarter Income
aiinsider ·
SpaceX has returned to profitability in the third quarter of 2026, reporting a net income of $4.4 billion compared to a loss of $1 billion in the previous year. The company achieved total revenue of $14.6 billion, with artificial intelligence now driving 52% of its income as it shifts strategic focus from space exploration to AI infrastructure. Its renamed Super Intelligence segment generated $7.5 billion in revenue, fueled by products like the Cursor coding tool, Grok agents, and a neocloud business with significant compute capacity. Although the unit posted a profit of $431 million, this figure was reduced by $1.2 billion in one-time stock compensation related to the Cursor acquisition. Capital expenditures reached $19.6 billion as SpaceX invests heavily in its Colossus II data center and Starship development. CEO Elon Musk identified power, cooling, and infrastructure as the primary constraints for superintelligence deployment rather than chip availability. Looking ahead, the company forecasts fourth-quarter spending between $35 billion and $40 billion and anticipates first-quarter 2027 revenue of $33 billion to $37 billion.
