Spotify Bets on AI Agents as a Growth Driver After Strong Third Quarter
aiinsider ·
Spotify reported strong third-quarter results with 788 million monthly active users and nearly €5 billion in revenue, but its strategic focus has shifted toward AI agents as a primary growth driver. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström highlighted that the entertainment sector is uniquely positioned to thrive in the agentic era because users prefer experiencing media rather than having it summarized. The company aims to become the preferred media service for various AI assistants, allowing listeners to request music, podcasts, or audiobooks through natural conversation. Spotify has already integrated with major platforms like Meta’s Muse, ChatGPT, and Claude, noting strong adoption rates among these agents. Unlike competitors such as Amazon, which have restricted access for some agents, Spotify is actively embracing this shift to remain accessible across different AI ecosystems. Söderström described the platform as an intelligent media service capable of executing complex tasks, such as generating playlists based on specific historical listening data. Crucially, the company maintains user privacy by processing these requests through its own systems without sharing listener data with external partners.
