Spotify’s is giving you the keys to its recommendation algorithm with US launch of ‘Taste Profile’
techcrunch ·
Spotify has launched its new 'Taste Profile' feature for Premium subscribers in the United States, offering users direct control over the platform's recommendation algorithm. This tool allows listeners to view how Spotify interprets their preferences across music, podcasts, and audiobooks, and to request adjustments using natural language commands. Previously unveiled in beta in New Zealand, the feature is now being tested in Spotify's largest market among adults aged 18 and up. The update addresses common issues where recommendations become too repetitive or fail to reflect evolving user tastes by enabling requests for more variety or specific genres. Users can also exclude certain types of content, such as sleep sounds or children's music, from influencing their personalized suggestions. To use the feature, users access it via their profile menu and submit edits, which typically update the Home feed within a few hours. Although currently in beta, this AI-powered tool gives listeners significant influence over playlists like Discover Weekly and the upcoming Spotify Wrapped.
