aiinsider ·
Stryker has announced a strategic alliance with British surgical robotics firm CMR Surgical, involving an investment of approximately $400 million in preferred equity. This deal grants Stryker exclusive U.S. sales rights for CMR’s Versius robotic surgery systems and provides the option to acquire 100% of the company in the future. The investment aims to support the further development and global commercialization of the Versius portfolio, which features a modular design for soft-tissue procedures. Under the agreement, CMR will continue to oversee product development and sales outside the United States, while Stryker leverages its extensive customer network to drive adoption in the American market. Andy Pierce, Stryker’s group president, highlighted that this partnership represents a disciplined entry into soft-tissue surgical robotics. CMR CEO Massimiliano Colella noted that Stryker’s scale and relationships offer significant growth opportunities for expanding access to robotic-assisted surgery globally. The transaction is currently subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
