aiinsider ·
Swarmer has agreed to acquire Ukrainian unmanned ground vehicle manufacturer Ratel Robotics for a potential value of up to $224 million. The definitive agreement involves a combination of cash and stock, with the final transaction price contingent upon Ratel meeting specific earnout milestones. Ratel founder and CEO Taras Ostapchuk will continue in his leadership role, reporting directly to Swarmer’s U.S. president and CEO, Alex Fink. This acquisition marks a strategic expansion for Swarmer, moving beyond its core autonomy software business into physical unmanned ground systems. Ratel’s modular vehicles are currently utilized for critical battlefield tasks such as logistics, casualty evacuation, reconnaissance, and demining. Since January 18, Ratel products have accounted for approximately 37% of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense Procurement Agency's spending on unmanned ground vehicles. The combined entity is expected to employ nearly 500 people after the deal closes, integrating Ratel’s more than 300 staff members with Swarmer’s existing workforce. Both companies aim to create versatile, interoperable solutions by combining battle-tested hardware with Swarmer’s combat-proven coordination software.
