TechCrunch Disrupt 2026: Ricursive Intelligence’s Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini on when AI starts designing its own hardware
techcrunch ·
Ricursive Intelligence, a startup co-founded by Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini, is developing AI systems capable of designing computer chips to accelerate hardware development. The founders aim to reduce the traditional two-to-three-year chip design cycle to just a few weeks by creating self-improving AI tools that learn from previous designs. Goldie and Mirhoseini previously led AlphaChip at Google, where they demonstrated that AI could generate chip layouts in hours rather than months. They launched Ricursive in late 2025 and quickly secured $335 million in funding, valuing the company at $4 billion with investors including Nvidia. At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, the co-founders will discuss closing the loop between AI and chip development on the Disrupt Stage. Their approach seeks to automate complex tasks like component placement and verification while enabling continuous improvement across different chip architectures. This feedback loop aims to produce more powerful and efficient hardware to support increasingly capable artificial intelligence models.
