Tencent releases Hy4 with vision and computer use, claims second place among Chinese AI models

Tencent has officially released its latest AI model, Hy4, which features advanced image understanding and autonomous computer use capabilities. The model is specifically optimized for coding, finance, and office workflows, with Tencent claiming it ranks second among Chinese AI models in independent tests. While Hy4 outperforms several domestic rivals like Deepseek V4.1 Flash and Kimi K3.1 Pro in specific financial tasks, it trails significantly behind global leaders such as Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol on complex math and coding benchmarks. Independent assessments from Artificial Analysis place Hy4 in second position within the Chinese lab category but highlight severe hallucination issues when web search is disabled. Internally, Tencent utilizes Hy4 to optimize training pipelines and has even used it to train specialized models for biology and physics. Despite these advancements, the company acknowledges that Hy4 remains inferior to top-tier commercial models in hard tasks and plans to release a faster variant called Hy4 flash. Model weights are scheduled for future release, subject to China's new draft export control frameworks for high-ranking AI models.
