TypeSafe AI, the developer of the non-text AI model Jev, has secured an $870 million funding round at a $7.5 billion valuation just weeks after its launch. The investment was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia Capital and existing investor DCVC. Jev gained immediate popularity following its September 15 release, reportedly achieving rapid adoption among Fortune 500 companies. Unlike traditional large language models, Jev is based on transformer architecture but outputs probabilities rather than text. TypeSafe describes these outputs as "calibrated decisions" designed specifically for automation tasks instead of content generation. Co-founder Diogo Almeida emphasized that computers operate on a different language than humans, making text-based LLMs less suitable for certain automated processes. The startup was co-founded in 2024 by former OpenAI researcher Diogo Almeida, ex-Meta engineer Sasha Sheng, and entrepreneur Erik Gafni.
