The Nvidia Shield TV Is 7 Years Old. It Just Got a $100 Price Hike
wired ·
Nvidia has increased the price of its seven-year-old Shield TV Pro by $100, raising the cost to $299.99 effective October 2, 2026. This significant price hike is attributed to the soaring costs of memory and storage components driven by the global demand for AI infrastructure. Although the device features an aging Tegra X1+ processor from 2019, it remains in production because Nvidia does not hold large pre-AI hardware stockpiles. The company confirmed that industry-wide component shortages are forcing these higher manufacturing expenses. As a major beneficiary of the AI boom, Nvidia is also seeing similar pricing trends across other consumer electronics like game consoles. Consequently, the already niche streaming box may become less attractive to casual users who only need basic streaming capabilities. While availability was previously limited due to high production costs, units are now restocked at Best Buy at the new higher price point.
