The Pentagon now has its own version of ChatGPT and Grok
techcrunch ·
The Pentagon has introduced custom government versions of OpenAI's ChatGPT and xAI's Grok, called ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government, on its secure GenAI.mil portal. The portal, which already offered Google Gemini, gives the Department of Defense's 3 million civilian and military personnel access to commercial AI tools without the data collection typical of consumer products. More than 1.7 million unique users have already onboarded to the portal. ChatGPT Mil is designed for routine unclassified work, including administrative tasks, logistics, planning, and policy. Grok for Government is positioned to help warfighters execute missions faster and with greater precision, with applications such as market research and supply-chain management. Anthropic's Claude model is absent from the portal due to a dispute over safety guardrails, and the company is currently fighting a supply-chain risk designation in court.
