Thieves Stole ‘Nvidia’ Trailers. They Got 20 Tons of Sand
wired ·
Thieves in Newark, California, stole two trailers belonging to self-driving truck developer PlusAI, which were partnered with Nvidia on autonomous technology. The perpetrators likely intended to steal high-value silicon chips but instead found the trailers filled with approximately 20 tons of sand each. These loads were actually simulated weights used by PlusAI for research and development testing purposes. Although the thieves broke the hand locks and detached their own cabs to drive away, they ultimately abandoned the cargo after realizing its true contents. Police recovered both trailers intact later that same day, resulting in a fortunate outcome for the company. This incident highlights a broader trend of cargo theft targeting valuable electronics and computer equipment across the United States. While many such crimes remain unsolved or result in significant financial losses, this particular case ended without any reported arrests.
