Things That Go Beep in the Night: Agentic AI Joins the Search for Extraterrestrial Signals
nvidia ·
Scientists at the Allen Telescope Array have integrated NVIDIA's Holoscan platform to enhance the search for extraterrestrial intelligence using agentic AI. This advancement allows AI agents to steer instruments, process data, and apply models via natural language requests, significantly speeding up the analysis of massive sensor streams. The system processes terabits per second in real-time using GPU memory, eliminating the need to store data on hard drives before analysis. By leveraging frameworks like CyberEther and the Nexus orchestrator, agents can calibrate telescopes and correct errors autonomously. Andrew Siemion of the SETI Institute notes that while alien civilizations might be far older and technologically advanced, this technology serves as a breakthrough in translation rather than a threat. The pipeline has already demonstrated its capability by achieving the first real-time AI detection of a pulsar in the Crab Nebula. Researchers are now evaluating open models like NVIDIA Nemotron for future applications, including potential offline use on the moon.
