The article warns that media streaming devices like SuperBox, which lure users with free movies, often secretly enroll home connections into residential proxy networks that criminals rent to route malicious traffic. Security firm Plume found that SuperBox has Android protections disabled, leaving an open ADB port and unauthenticated root access that remote attackers can exploit. These devices can be silently infected with additional malware, such as proxy clients or DDoS botnets, even when placed behind a router. Plume's controlled experiment recorded over 1,300 attempts to exploit the ADB vulnerability on a single node within three weeks. The report concludes that SuperBox and similar devices pose a tangible threat to home networks and advises users to disconnect and dispose of them.
