Transfyr Launches Physical AI Platform for Science with $25M Seed Funding
aiinsider ·
Transfyr, a physical AI platform for real-world science, launched with $25 million in seed funding led by General Catalyst, with participation from Lux Capital, Breakout Ventures, Factory, Neo, SV Angel, and others. The company was founded by Anna Marie Wagner, former Head of AI and Corporate Development at Ginkgo Bioworks, and Dr. Renee Wegrzyn, founding Director of ARPA-H. Its platform captures hands-on bench science and converts it into machine-readable data to enable closed-loop AI and automation systems, addressing gaps in the scientific record that hinder reproducibility and tech transfer. Advisors include David Baker, Jakob Uszkoreit, and Kevin Weil, and the team includes wet-lab scientists, automation engineers, and machine learning experts. The company is headquartered at The Engine in Cambridge, MA, and operates an in-house wet lab for training data and sensor testing. Transfyr is already working with partners across diagnostics, pharma, academic research, robotics, and frontier AI labs, including a Massachusetts Life Sciences Center grant and an NSF Programmable Cloud Labs initiative. The founders cite inefficiencies in translating scientific ideas into reliable, scalable impact, with issues like tech transfer delays costing billions annually.
